Lithium

Lithium

Symbol:Li

Atomic number: 3

Average atomic mass: 6.941

Physical Appearance

The element lithium has a silvery white appearance. It is the lightest metal and the least dense solid element. It is an alkali metal and is in the physical form of a solid.

Density

Lithium has half the density of water. It's soft enough to be cut with a knife and does not tarnish in dry air.

Uses

Because of its specific heat capacity, the highest of all solids, lithium is often used in heat transfer applications. Lithium is also used in batteries because of it's electrochemical potential.
